Parent Club

Empowering Families and Building Connections

The Parent Club is one of RISE Forth Valley’s key community projects — created by families, for families.
It draws on the lived experiences of our members and volunteers to ensure our services are culturally sensitive, inclusive, and tailored to the needs of racialised communities across the Forth Valley.

🌱 What We Do

The Parent Club reaches out to racialised parents, carers, and families who may have been left out of mainstream support. Through our extensive community networks, we connect with families who face barriers such as language, isolation, disability, or trauma — and provide them with opportunities to build confidence, learn new skills, and strengthen family wellbeing. We currently support around 50 families and engage with over 100 service users who experience social isolation due to culture, disability, lack of local family, or unfamiliarity with services.

Our Support Includes

Peer Support
⦁ Groupwork sessions
⦁ WhatsApp community for regular connection
⦁ In-person meetups and social events for parents and children
Workshops & Training
⦁ English language and communication support
⦁ Mental health and wellbeing sessions
⦁ IT and digital skills training
⦁ Healthy eating and cooking classes
⦁ Positive parenting and family relationships workshops
⦁ Exercise and relaxation sessions
Specialised Support Groups
⦁ Parents (mothers and fathers)
⦁ Domestic abuse survivors (mothers)
⦁ Carers and families of children with autism and disabilities

💬 Why It Matters
Parents from racialised backgrounds often face extra barriers when seeking support for themselves or their families, such as:
⦁ Language and communication challenges
⦁ Lack of culturally appropriate parenting or breastfeeding support
⦁ Cultural or religious expectations around family life
⦁ Experiences of discrimination, abuse, or trauma

The Parent Club acts as a safe and trusted space where parents and carers — both mothers and fathers — can connect, share experiences, and access help without fear of judgement.
More than half of our participants have experienced abuse or trauma, and the group offers a vital safety net and source of strength.

“Parent Club helped me feel part of something again. I’ve made new friends and gained confidence.”

Working in Partnership

We receive referrals and collaborate with:
⦁ Health Visitors
⦁ GPs
⦁ Women’s Aid (Shakti and Saheliya)
⦁ Forth Valley Rape Crisis
⦁ Central Equality Agency (CEA)
These partnerships help ensure that every family, regardless of background or circumstance, can access the right support when they need it.

Connected Communities
The Parent Club supports the Scottish Government’s Connected Scotland Strategy, which aims to tackle social isolation and loneliness while building stronger social connections across communities.
